The option for dinner was Steam and Rye - a kind of... Americana/diner/Gatsby-esque/drinking hole. It covers many bases, put it that way. But you know what, our little table for two was near the bar top tables, and there was real atmosphere, a (I hate to say it) "buzz", even at 7/7:30 when we got there.
Seeing as how I wasn't paying for anything, I thought it would be rude to not sample pretty much everything on the menu, ever. Particularly the cocktails. I think Steam and Rye will become known for their absolutely mental cocktails - sickeningly sweet on the whole, but my GOD, bloody sinful and fantastic!
Now on to the grub. As I wasn't paying, I pushed the boat out and had lobster, for the very first time. I never really saw the appeal of lobster - I always thought you got very little for your dollar, not much bang for your buck, and I am generally pretty poor... But wow. Was I wrong. Lobster is the food of the gods. Served with a side of excellent fries and, because we were in America land, a side of mac'n'cheese... It was just the business.
In case this wasn't decadent enough - I had to opt for a pudding. And I could have gone for the brownie, which did indeed look tempting, but I get that often when I go out for pudding. So I thought, go for something you have never had. Banana split. Holy fucking moly.
This isn't an ordinary place to eat dinner - my bill would easily have come to £100 which is completely out of my price range on a day to day basis. Okay, so I may have felt sick from so much sugar when I left, but bloody nora was it worth it. Some of the best food I have eaten in a really, really long time.
