Well, we ended up in Kensington and literally just strolled into the Kensington Wine Rooms because it looked nice from the outside and we could park near by. Ace.
What was great was that at half 7 on a Saturday night, they could squeeze us two in for an impromptu dinner, perfect. And the atmosphere was just so beatnik and that right level of class and chilling. I loved the bold statement print art on the walls and the cute tags to differentiate the water bottles. Just a really sophisticated vibe.
I overcame this by being difficult, obviously. I went for two starters to come as a main. As you do.
First off, I got the pan seared scallops on a cauliflower puree (£9). It. Was. SUBLIME. Scallops are my literal favourite thing in the entire world, and sticks by my resolution of "always get something you never have at home". Cutting into the scallops was like cutting through butter, absolutely cooked to perfection. And you know what's weird... I actually don't like cauliflower. Why pick it? I don't like the texture, but the cauliflower puree was just the most amazing accompaniment - smooth, creamy and the little florets of cauliflower were crispy and I think... dare I say it... I might have been CONVERTED. My name is Jessica, and I'm a cauliflower convert. And of course, all served on a jazzy plate, very sophisticated.
Overall, for £24.70, I had some of the best seafood I have ever had in my entire life, with a cracking glass of vino, great company, great atmosphere and great staff. I heartily recommend for a tasty dinner, or if you want to try some special wines. One very happy girly.
