Atmosphere-wise, it is...cosy. So cosy. Loads of books lining the shelves which you can swap with a book of your own, candles everywhere, just snuggly.
We are both difficult eaters, in the respect that both my mum and myself are the pesky pescatarians. So wherever we go, we have to make sure there are good options. As we were on a bit of a budget, we skipped starter and stuck to the nice, refreshing water, of the tap variety.
Both of us punted for the same thing: cod, with aioli, confit potatoes and foraged greens (£15.25). The waitress serving however, informed us that they only had one portion of cod left, but would swordfish do instead? I nodded, absolutely! I love swordfish, never have it, bring it on.
When the plates arrived, both my mum and myself looked at each other. Well. These plates were smaller than we expected. I had a good slab of swordfish, which was cooked to perfection. The confit new potatoes were divinely cooked, buttery... but there were only 4 of them. I had some very fresh, beautifully cooked foraged greens, cabbage I believe and samphire. Scrummy, but only about a large spoon full of them. Garlicky tang of aioli was just heavenly, but four small splodges of them.
I eat at the speed of lightening and I found myself teasing out the swordfish, taking very minute mouthfuls, making this plate last. DELICIOUS plate, mind. But a bit.. small.
Costcutter next to us got a bit of our money instead, spending £1.79 on Crimble's dark chocolate macaroons to have with a cuppa instead at home.
A nice evening, nice company, delicious food... just not enough of it!
