Every time I go to Chinatown and every time I sit down to lunch or dinner, I go somewhere different, so I made it my prerogative to make a mental note of the place this time so I could go back!
Myself and my beautiful best friend pottered along and stumbled across Dumplings' Legend. Inside was sleek, with very minimalist decor. We were placed by the window (my favourite, prime for people watching) and confronted with just chopsticks. Gulp. Eating skills will be put to the test...
I was umming and ahhing over dim sum choices for a solid ten minutes as least. I was torn between getting prawn dim sum, or pick and mixing a few prawn and veg... Decisions, decisions!
In the end I opted for vegetarian xiao long bao (8 pieces, £6):
I then proceeded to eat quite a considerable amount of my friend egg fried rice with prawns, because she was full. And that was pretty decent too, but not a patch on these bad boys.
Dimsum is by far my favourite Chinese food option. Although Dumplings' Legend didn't have the best service and then still charged a service charge (does my nut in), I had a scrummy lunch for a reasonable price.
And whilst you're in Chinatown, pick up some mochi. Mochi are the bomb. They're these little jelly texture rice flour things, filled/flavoured and rolled in icing sugar or desiccated coconut. I opted for peanut butter filled mochi rolled in coconut and with 8 pieces for £2.30 they are worth every penny. Yum. The texture isn't for everyone, but just pretend they aren't like an eyeball and revel in how delish they are.
